Who We Are

Welcome and thank you for taking time to learn about Covenant Baptist Church. We are a church that seeks to fulfill the Great Commission by seeing people surrender their lives to Jesus through faith in Him and then grow in that faith as they worship and serve the Lord.

When you visit to worship with us, you will find a traditional congregation committed to worshipping God through great hymns of the faith, expository preaching, and genuine fellowship.

Dr. John Enoch
Senior Pastor

Our Vision at Covenant Baptist Church

  • Love God
  • Learn God’s Word
  • Live God’s Way and
  • Look for God’s Work

Covenant Baptist Church exists to lead people:

  • to celebrate God’s presence through worship
  • to explore God’s Word through Bible study
  • to equip God’s people through discipleship
  • to serve God through ministry and missions

We are conservative in our beliefs.

We believe the Bible is God’s Word. It is the inerrant, infallible Word of God. It is the living Word of God without any mixture of error. The Bible is intended to bring people to salvation, to place our lives on a firm foundation, and to help us live consistent Christian lives.

God
We believe that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1 ; Matthew 3:17 ; John 4:24

Jesus
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was wholly God and wholly man, lived a sinless life, died in our place as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven.
Matthew 11:27 ; John 11:25-27 ; 1 Corinthians 1:30

Christ’s·Return
We believe that Jesus Christ will literally return to earth.
Matthew 16:27 ; Acts 1:11 ; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18

Holy∙Spirit
We believe that God the Holy Spirit is active in convincing unbelievers of their need for salvation, and is the Comforter and Guide Who lives in every believer.
Psalm 51:11 ; John 14:16-17

Bible
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God without any error, the sole authority for life and faith.
Psalm 119:11 ; Luke 21:33 ; 2 Timothy 3:15-17

Man
We believe that man is a special creation of God, made in His image, but that through the sin of the first man, Adam, mankind fell so that all men are sinners and need salvation.
Genesis 2:7 ; Romans 3:10-18 ; Colossians 1:21-22

Salvation
We believe that salvation is a gift received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 3:16 ; Acts 4:12 ; Romans 10:9-10

Assurance
We believe that every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 10:28-29 ; Acts 16:30-31 ; 2 Corinthians 5:17

Eternity
We believe that those persons who die in their sins without Christ spend eternity in Hell and those persons who die with their sins forgiven through Christ spend eternity in Heaven.
John 14:1-3 ; 1 Corinthians 15:35-58 ; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18

Baptism
We believe that water baptism is an act of obedience to the command of Christ and is by immersion after salvation.
Mark 1:9-11 ; Matthew 28:19-20 ; Romans 6:3-5

Church
We believe that the church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head.

Music & Worship Style

General
At Covenant Baptist Church, our desire is to create an atmosphere in worship that is God-centered, Spirit-led, and Bible-saturated. We believe that true worship is an inward experience that comes when we value God above all else in our hearts. We seek to worship God in spirit and in truth.
John 4:23-24

God’s Word
We express our worship to God through the reading and preaching of His Word, prayer, giving, and music. The preaching of God’s Word is the most important part of our services.

Music
Our worship style includes the best hymns of the past with a selection of worship songs and praise choruses. Our music is presented in a traditional style utilizing the piano, organ, and other orchestral instruments. Congregational singing, choral music and solo singing all play an important role in our services. All of our music is based entirely on the Word of God, and we aim to express our worship toward God, who alone deserves our praise.

Our Beginnings

In October 1997, a group of believers met in a local home to discuss and pray about the possibility of starting a new Southern Baptist Church. Their desire was for this new work to be biblically based and traditional in worship. Sensing the leadership of the Holy Spirit, the small group voted to form Covenant Baptist Church.

The next step in the process was to call a pastor. The call was extended to Rev. Davy Henderson. The vote was unanimous, and Bro. Davy accepted. For eight years, Bro. Davy faithfully led the congregation. Through his leadership, God grew His church. Bro. Davy served the Lord until his home going in June 2005.

Our Next Steps

In 1999, Covenant merged with Parkway Village Baptist Church. Both churches shared common goals and beliefs. After much prayer and work, these two local bodies of believers became one. Since the merger, the Lord has added hundreds of people to our family of faith.

Covenant’s first place of worship was the Forest Hill Malco Cinema. Two months later, the church began leasing a portion of the Madonna Learning Center in Germantown. This facility served the church well until a permanent building could be constructed.

In October 2000, the Lord provided approximately thirty seven acres of land on Houston Levee Road in Collierville. This piece of property was purchased by the church, and construction began. On July 13, 2002, the first service was held in the new facility. In 2010, an Education building and office suite was added.

In August 2006, the church called Dr. Sam Brassell as Senior Pastor. Under his leadership, the church continued to experience growth.
In May 2019, Dr. John Enoch was called as Senior Pastor.

Our Future

Though our history is not very long, it has been exciting. It is obvious that God has been at work since the beginning days of Covenant. We thank God for the past. We are excited about the future. We believe that there are some great days ahead. We cannot wait to see what God is going to do as we continue to faithfully serve Him.
